WE ENGINEER PROTEINS
TO GENERATE LIGHT

INSPIRED BY BIOLUMINESCENCE

Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by living organisms via a biochemical reaction.

The most recognizable forms of bioluminescence in nature are organisms such as jellyfish, fireflies, mushrooms, algae, and plankton.

All bioluminescent light is made possible with biological catalyst made from simple proteins. LUX BIO is taking advantage of the 500 million years of R&D that has already been made possible through evolution of these plants and animals, and engineering these proteins further to have the performance qualities needed to have commercial applications.

We are building on top of this natural phenomena to make light that is compatible with our planet.

Bioluminescent light in nature utilizes 'flash-type' brightness (bright, then over in a flash)

We needed to improve these enzymes to keep being bright for a long period of time

Our protein engineering work is focused on increasing the duration, stability, and brightness of bioluminescent reactions

We've developed our own proteins and formulas to generate bright and long lasting light

Our technology is on par with chemiluminescence performance, and has been tested with NASA, Stellantis, the BBC, and other early pilot partners across the globe

EXPANDING
WHAT'S POSSIBLE

We are able to do things that chemiluminescence (chemical light) is unable to do - since our core technology is safe, sustainable, and powder-based!

In 2021, we connected with Linus Tech Tips, a popular YouTube channel to showcase what our technology is capable of. We worked with their team and developed the world's first bioluminescent gaming PC!

This was only the first step of showing what is possible with our innovative technology. We plan to apply our technology to various industries, all with the goal of replacing chemiluminescence with bioluminescence - in old products to have more value but also whole new products in markets not possible before!

EXPANDING CURRENT MARKETS

A wider array of applications are possible than is currently achieved with chemiluminescence due to the many performance benefits.

AND CREATING NEW MARKETS

We can go where no chemical light has gone before! From the depths of the ocean to deep space - the powder, simple water activation, and fully biocompatible molecular structure enables novel applications.
